Corporate America 400-500 words

Out with the old and in with the new seems to be the new theme for corporate America. It’s sad to think that after years of dedicated service, people are being downsized to allow for new and younger workers who are willing to work for less pay and fewer benefits. The state of the economy has put companies in a position of being able to dictate terms that border on being unethical and illegal.

Beware if you have been at a company for many years. Most senior employees were hired at a higher starting salary than what employees are hired at now. Over the years with raises some senior lower pay scale employees make more than a new manager in the same department. This is the area that the ‘human’ resource department is looking hard it when it comes time to replace employees. You may have noticed that your work product is being scrutinized more carefully. Managers may make working conditions more and more difficult for employees that upper management has decided to replace.

Increased workload is another area where employees have no recourse but to grin and bear it. As employees retire, quit or are terminated; their positions are not being filled and the work is being distributed to others in the department. Management looks for resistance from members of the group and any dissention is met with swift consequences. Again, there are so many qualified people looking for work, employers are looking for reasons to replace people that aren’t considered ‘team players.’ Unfortunately, by not replacing exiting employees, the unemployment level is not improving.

Healthcare costs have also caused employers to look at less than ethical practices when replacing employees. Any employee that a company feels is placing a burden on their healthcare plan is being watched with the intent of replacing them at the first possible opportunity. Otherwise unnoticed behavior is being reprimanded with the intention of gathering enough information to terminate these employees.

It is distressing that our government sits idly by and watches more and more Americans become unemployed or underemployed. A vicious cycle has been created. Corporate cutbacks have led to higher unemployment rates. Higher taxes are needed to cover the expense of paid unemployment benefits, paid welfare benefits and paid state healthcare. The higher taxes are forcing business to cutback even more and so it continues.

Sadly, corporate America has found a way around laws that were put in place to help protect people in the work place. If you think that your age, race, sex, experience and health status aren’t being considered when you are interviewed for a job or reviewed yearly to discuss job performance, you are kidding yourself. Until the economy improves, unemployment rates drop and employment laws are enforced; nothing will improve.

Finding a smile (list blog)

As summer drags on with the days getting hotter and more humid it’s harder to find things that make me smile. After all these years, it still amazes me how much the weather influences my mood and energy level. Days like this are hard when searching for my smile. Maybe making a list would help.

1. Watching my dogs play and wondering what they dream about when they sleep

2. Taking a long walk or a hike in the woods

3. Spending time with friends, exploring new places

4. Day trips

5. Connecting with friends on the internet

6. Starting a new project

7. Helping someone else with a problem

8. Receiving a smile

9. Taking a risk to try something new

10. Reading a book from one of my favorite authors

Now that I know how simple it is to think of things that make me smile, maybe I can find my smile more often. If nothing else, when you smile, it makes people wonder what you are up to. That might just be reason enough.

Sample Blog 300-400 words

Just in the last year internet chat has changed quite a bit and has grown into something not quite controllable. Originally a way for people to communicate with friends and family all over the world, it became a way to meet new and interesting people, make friends and in some cases a love match. It’s sad to see a nice form of communication being ruined by con-artists, pornographers and irresponsible parents.

So many times when looking to meet people someone will enter ‘chat’ into the search engine and click on a few until they find one that seems to be a good fit. Soon they find that not everyone is as they appear. Some are lying about age, gender, location, profession and just about everything else. Some want you to come to their pay websites and some want you to send them money directly. Some will make promises of love and jobs to get you trust them. Beware and never give personal information to anyone online.

Another problem with chat sites now is that most involve webcam. People will turn on their webcam and show their home, face and other body parts without knowing who is watching them. There is software available that allows those video feeds to be recorded. People are recording others, sometimes intimately, and those recordings are turning up on other websites. This invasion of privacy is becoming more and more prevalent throughout the internet.

Parents who buy their children computers hoping to encourage their interest in education are also creating a problem when they allow the children access to the internet to safeguard them from adult chat sites. Many times a teenager’s natural curiosity about sex is exploited on sites that are intended for adults only. Pedophiles are not easy to spot behind the computer screen. Parents have to take the time to review what sites their child is visiting. At the very least make sure all internet activity is done in a common room in the house.

Internet chat is still a good form of communication for most people. Remembering to protect and safeguard your personal information and financial information is similar to what it would be face to face. It is much harder to get an accurate feeling about a person when they could be anywhere in the world.

Joanie says- Hey, has anyone tried XYZ product to help lose weight?

MaryJ says- Yes, I've tries XYZ....I just love it...I feel better in general and it seems to be helping :)

Joanie says- Thnx MaryJ, hoped to find someone else using it. Any tips you have, I'll take.

MaryJ says-That would be great! The one thing I have found is that if I (insert product recommendations) it makes a big difference. Do you notice you have more energy too?

Joanie says- Good idea. My problem is remembering to take them at the right time. I do have more energy, it's wonderful!

MaryJ says- I had that same problem. I started leaving the bottle next to the coffee post so I would see it first thing in the morning.

Sue says- I just started taking XYZ. I really like it so far. Thanks for the tip about remembering to take them.

and so on..maybe add a male or two...

New Thread in PlusSize

Sue says- I went shopping yesterday for a nice sundress and no luck..Am I the only one having problems??????

Diane says- I found some online that fit pretty good. Summer clothes are easier than winter. What's up with the sleeve length on plus size clothes?

Sue says- I know what you mean...I guess they think large people have long arms too. I have to fold the sleeves under on everything. LOL.

Diane says- just think of all the money we save on gloves since the sleeves end past our finger tips. Haha!

Joanie says- One thing I noticed is that the clothes I buy from stores that only sell plus size clothes they fit better than from stores that just carry plus sizes.

Note: I recommend 4-5 different posters involved in different forums and engaging others as appropriate. Let them build a relationship and reputation for giving good advice. It may not be a bad idea to have them post something similar to a regular blog, also.

Rescue Pets

It's funny when I think about how many hours I spend a day with my best friend and how much better I feel just being with him. It's hard to imaginemy life without those times I just take for granted.
You may have guessed from the picture that my best friend is a beautiful border collie mix. His name is Pete, although he has nicknames, and he is a great friend. He loves to just walk quietly with me and just let me think. He always knows when I have had a bad day and loves to hug me when I am down.
Pete is a rescue dog. He was part of a litter that a very loving organization had taken in and put up for adoption. It's hard to walk past those groups at pet stores and not want to take one or all of the pets home. Of course that's not possible.
Please look carefully at your family situation and see if you have a place for a friend to move in and brighten your life. Look carefully at the amount of time you can spend with your friend and research what kind of personality different breeds lean toward to make sure you find the friend best suited for your situation.
Older animals are also available for adoption and make such wonderful companions for people that don't want to have to go through puppy training. In many cases they have lost their family though no fault of their own and need love and attention as much as a puppy.
Just look at Pete's happy face. I can't imagine not having him there to greet me at the end of a long day.
