Burglary Victim Charged with Murder After Car Crash

You come home late at night and walk toward your door. Someone wearing a ski mask sticks a gun in your back threatening your life and he is not alone. Your mind is racing. You have a daughter asleep inside. Your wife will be home shortly and these men have guns. What would you do?

How many are there? Are there more outside waiting for their friends or waiting to come in another door?  They demand you enter the code to disable the alarm, you go inside. They want cash. They want weapons. Room to room they force you along.  What would you do?

You cooperate while you pray that your daughter doesn’t wake up and come to investigate. You cooperate while you pray your wife doesn’t come through the door and startle them. Once you give them all you have, you pray that they leave.  A gun is held to your head. Threats are made.  They leave.  You look in your daughter’s room, she’s not in bed. What would you do?

You run past your wife as she arrives; telling her to call the police. No time to explain as you race to your truck to give chase.  Heart is pounding at the thought of your daughter being kidnapped.  Your mind fears what will happen if you don’t follow. You have to get her back. You have to make sure they don’t disappear before the police arrive.  What would you do?

They are in front of you. The county road is dark with low visibility; especially for people who don’t know the area. You need to keep them in site. Their car swerves off the road, slows then corrects.  The speed is too fast and there is no time to stop.  The crash happens in slow motion as you hit their vehicle.

What would you do in the same situation? Under extreme circumstances while fearing for your family; this is what happened to Ira Beumer in February of 2012.

One of the robbers was killed in the accident and one was injured.  Beumer’s daughter had not been taken. The other men involved were captured and charged with the crimes associated with the armed home invasion and robbery.

The story doesn’t end there. On May 18, 2012, Ira Beumer was charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery and is being held without bond.  There has been information on both sides as to the exact sequence of events and questions as to what Beumer’s actual intent was in chasing the robbers.

Given the same circumstances, what would you do? Here are the links to the courierpress.com articles on the story and the Facebook support page for Ira Beumer.
